HW3 vs HW4 in 2026: an owner’s split, not a spec sheet

Hardware 3 is not dead. It is on a different train. Tesla is shipping v14.3.x features that are HW4-first — Collision Evasion is the current example — and keeping HW3 on Lite with the manners-and-monitoring improvements.

If you bought FSD on a 2019–2023 Model 3/Y, you did not buy a hardware refresh. You bought a software path. That path is slower and it is still moving. Anyone selling you a guaranteed HW3 retrofit is selling you a sentence Musk has not committed to on a calendar.

Check Controls → Software. Under the VIN you should see the Autopilot hardware version. If it is cut off, open Additional Vehicle Information. That one line is more honest than any forum thread.
